Weather Outside and Light Inside
It was a day to stay in. The rain was already falling when I awoke and continued off an on throughout the morning. Seated in my comfortable armchair by the window, I pulled back the curtains to gaze out on my wet world. It’s nice to sit inside, warm and comfortable and watch the changing moods of the weather.
First warm rain, then cold rain. A reprieve. The afternoon brought more cold rain, then hail. Stillness. Fog rolled in, then disappeared.
A thin mist covered the hills, then disappeared. As the day started to wind down for the day, instead of getting darker, outside became bathed in yellow and everything was crystal clear.
Light, or the absence of it, makes things have a different soul. The stone statue outside has a different expression when in full sunlight than when bathed in moonlight. Covered walkways seem harmless washed in the day’s sunshine but takes on an ominous feeling when completely in dark. The setting sun casts shadows that take on meaning of their own…or washes the world in colors that are reflected in still waters or light, fluffy clouds.
This is one of the reasons I happen to like those energy consuming incandescent lights rather than the halogen or flourescent. Rooms are embraced in a yellow glow that is warm and cosy, no matter what the weather is like outside.
